When you feel you’ve accomplished meaningful tasks before the workday has even begun, it can make all the difference in your productivity for the rest of the day.

We asked eight entrepreneurs across various industries to share their morning routines and the tasks that help them start with their best foot forward.

The takeaway: Everyone will have different priorities in their morning routine and that’s okay! The best thing to do is make a routine that works for you and stick with it. There is no right or wrong way to start your day, although you may want to consider getting up earlier…

Wake up early, coffee first, and eat later!

“I must have my water and latte first thing in the morning. Then I usually do a smoothie later. I get up early between 5:00-6:00am so my stomach is not ready for breakfast.” – Judith Virag, Clean Club Calgary

“I am up at 4:45am. No food yet. Get something to eat around 11:00am. I guess that makes me a bruncher!!” – Nick Araya, Tree Care LA

“I am up at 5:30am and that’s ‘me time’—usually coffee, some reading, water my garden—‘til 7:00am. Then into the shower and get ready for the day.” – Bobbi Taylor, Lemon Blossom Cleaning

Goals, exercise, and meditation are also important

“I wake up at 5:45am. Journal and write down the day’s goals. Hydrate and hit the home gym to bullet proof the mind and body. Eat breakfast and review goals.” – Scott Kells, Green Leaf Tree Services

“I get up at 5:00am, work out for 30min and then shower. Then I get coffee, meditate for 10min while doing warm compress on my eyes. I journal and write my goals. I then read the Bible, check emails, get on social media both business and personal, and eat an egg and sausage omelet.” – Brad Huebner, Team Handy

Get the kids going

“My summer and winter schedule differ as I work from home with my 6-year-old son. In the summer I usually wake up around 9:30am. I check my emails on my phone and any texts and missed calls. Then I get up and make breakfast for me and my son. And coffee!!! Breakfast is either toast a bagel or cereal and always coffee lol (for me, not my son).” – Emily Mercer, Maid of Honour Cleaning

“I am up at 5:00am. I have two cups of coffee while answering Facebook and Instagram messages and finalize the day’s schedule. I then drop the kids off at grandma’s before heading to the shop at 7:30am.” – James Randol, RPM Improvement Outdoor Services LLC

Check emails, social media messages, and Jobber

“I check my messages. I need to make sure that things are ok and there are no requests from clients/employees.” – Judith Virag, Clean Club Calgary

“I check emails and go on Jobber to make sure everything is looking good. Then go on Facebook to check notifications and respond to anything there.” – Emily Mercer, Maid of Honour Cleaning

Check in with employees and get them ready to go

“I arrive to the shop at 6:00am. Get trucks loaded with the crew, drive to the jobsite with the crew. Do the job walk through then head to my first consultation.” – Nick Araya, Tree Care LA

Or do both!

“I greet the crew, check messages and email, Make any needed schedule changes and dispatch crew to jobs. Get busy on marketing and everything else!” – Bobbi Taylor, Lemon Blossom Cleaning

“Get to the office at 6:30-7:00am. Discuss jobs, estimates, etc. with our managers. Help get the crews out the door. Check QuickBooks and Jobber and get to work.” – Ryan Beck, VanBeck Services Inc.

“I login to Jobber at about 7:30am and click through the job list and fill out pre job forms for the crew. Check in with crew to ensure all is set for the day. Hit the ground running to sell more work, meet with customers, and douse the day’s fires. :)” – Scott Kells, Green Leaf Tree Services
